Harris County Commissioners Court meets in special session Tuesday, September 8, to take up the proposed 2026-27 budget and tax rates. Community Impact reports the county’s Office of Management and Budget has proposed a rate of about $0.67 per $100 of property valuation, a 7.6% increase over last year, alongside a proposed $3.096 billion budget. KHOU 11 reports commissioners could vote on the increase, which the station describes as nearly 8 percent.
Because the proposed rate exceeds the state comptroller’s limit for tax increases the court can approve on its own, Community Impact reports county residents would vote on it in November if commissioners sign off.
Harris County levies the same rate across Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita, Huffman and the unincorporated parts of the Lake Houston area, so the outcome lands on tax bills here.
