West Fork Measured 2.4 Feet Deep Near Hallett Mine in Porter, ReduceFlooding Reports

ReduceFlooding.com reports that a fisherman using a depth finder measured the San Jacinto West Fork at 2.4 feet deep alongside the Hallett Mine in Porter over Labor Day weekend, a stretch the site says normally runs 8 to 10 feet deep. Site author Bob Rehak attributes the shallowing to sediment and notes that some of it may have come from other sources.

The West Fork feeds Lake Houston, so sediment moving down that reach bears on the lake’s capacity and on drainage across the Lake Houston area. Lake Houston Today has not independently verified the depth reading or the pollution claims described in the post.
