Montgomery County commissioners approved a $546 million budget for fiscal 2026-27 on a 3 to 2 vote Tuesday and raised the county property tax rate from $0.3770 to $0.3860 per $100 of valuation, an increase of about 2.3 percent, ABC13 Houston reported. The budget is roughly $38 million larger than last year’s $508 million and includes a 5 percent raise for county employees and more than $3 million toward law enforcement pay parity.
County Judge Mark Keough said the rate change works out to roughly $2 to $3 a month at median property values. Porter, New Caney and the northern edge of the Lake Houston area sit in Montgomery County, and New Caney ISD serves families on that side of the coverage area.
