The Harris County Community Flood Resilience Task Force has adopted a resolution opposing the proposed Scarborough and San Jacinto Preserve development, a residential project of more than 5,300 acres west of Kingwood at the confluence of Spring, Cypress and Turkey creeks with the West Fork of the San Jacinto River, ReduceFlooding reported. The resolution was adopted August 28.
The resolution states that the tract consists predominantly of active floodways, floodplains and wetlands, and that it sits in the Lake Houston watershed, which the task force describes as the primary drinking water source for about 2.4 million people across the Greater Houston area. The task force is an advisory body created by Harris County Commissioners Court and made up of 17 volunteer members. According to the report, Commissioners Court and Houston City Council have each passed their own unanimous resolutions opposing the development.
