Atlantic Passes Statistical Peak of Hurricane Season With No Hurricanes Yet in 2026

The Atlantic basin passed the statistical peak of hurricane season on September 10 without a single hurricane forming this year, ReduceFlooding reported. Citing AccuWeather, the site noted that the record for the latest first hurricane since 1950 was set by Gustav in 2002 and tied by Humberto in 2013, both of which formed on September 11.

AccuWeather was quoted as saying that if no hurricane formed by September 11, the 2026 Atlantic season would mark the latest point in the satellite era without an Atlantic hurricane. National Hurricane Center climatology cited in the report shows that a normal season would have produced eight named storms by this point, three of them hurricanes and one a major hurricane. ReduceFlooding said no tropical cyclone activity was showing in the Atlantic and none was expected over the following seven days.
