18-Year-Old Charged With Felony Animal Cruelty After a Puppy Was Found With Broken Bones at a Humble Home

An 18-year-old has been charged with a third-degree felony after a three-month-old puppy was found with multiple broken bones at a home in Humble, Fox 26 Houston and Click2Houston reported Tuesday.

Harris County Precinct 1 constable’s deputies charged McKinley Bass, 18, with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, the stations reported. Bass surrendered to court and was released on a $12,000 bond, according to Fox 26 Houston. A third-degree felony carries a punishment range of two to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 on conviction. Bass has not been convicted of anything and the case is pending.

The puppy, named Nyla, was found with broken bones in various stages of healing, the stations reported, and a second, adult dog taken from the same home had a fractured rib and an object lodged in its skin. Both animals are being cared for by the Houston SPCA. Investigators said a neighbor reported the case after recording video over a period in late August and early September.

Precinct 1 is one of the constable precincts that serves parts of the Lake Houston area, and the home is inside the Humble postal area, which is why this is local news here rather than a Houston metro crime item.
