A 25-Year-Old Is Charged With Five Felonies After a Harris County Deputy Was Shot in Channelview

A 25-year-old man is charged with five felonies after a Harris County sheriff’s deputy was shot in Channelview on Wednesday, KPRC 2 reported. Chase Layne Patin faces four counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, each involving a firearm, and one count of theft of property valued between $30,000 and $150,000.

Deputy Javier E. Perez-Garcia was struck in both legs and suffered additional injuries. He underwent surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital and was listed in stable condition. Three other deputies, Sgt. Miguel Diaz, Deputy Abigail Gonzalez and Deputy Caren Williams, were also fired on, according to the report. Perez-Garcia’s marked patrol vehicle was taken and later found abandoned near Dell Dale and the East Freeway.

Patin was arrested Thursday after an overnight search, found hiding in a shed near a wooded area after residents reported dogs barking near the structure. Prosecutors requested no bond, and a hearing was set for Friday at 9 a.m. The charges are allegations and have not been tried.

This is county news for Lake Houston area readers because the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency that patrols the unincorporated parts of this coverage area, including Atascocita, Huffman and Summerwood, and a Blue Alert was issued across the region while the search was underway.
