Lake Houston
Lake Houston read 42.63 feet at 5:30 a.m. Central on Saturday, October 3, at the United States Geological Survey gauge at Lk Houston nr Sheldon, TX, site number 08072000. Over the previous 48 hours the gauge ranged from a low of 42.13 feet, recorded at noon Thursday, October 1, to a high of 42.64 feet, recorded at 5:00 a.m. Saturday. The lake has risen about half a foot across that window.
The Texas Water Development Board puts Lake Houston at 100.0 percent of its conservation capacity on its daily reading for October 3, with an elevation of 42.59 feet. A reservoir at 100 percent of conservation capacity is full at its normal operating pool. That is not a flood condition, and no flood alerts are active for the area this morning.
Lake Conroe
Lake Conroe stood at 199.82 feet and 94.5 percent full on the Texas Water Development Board daily value for October 3, unchanged from the figure reported for Friday, October 2. The lake rose about three tenths of a foot between Thursday and Friday. This is a once-daily value rather than an intraday reading, so it carries a date rather than a timestamp.
San Jacinto River Authority releases from Lake Conroe flow down the West Fork of the San Jacinto River into Lake Houston, which is why the upstream level matters to residents of Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita. A rising Lake Conroe is part of the local flooding picture downstream even when conditions at Lake Houston itself are normal.
