The Texas Department of Transportation is taking public comment through Thursday, October 9 on a $209 million proposal to widen a 6.73 mile stretch of the Grand Parkway that ends at Townsen Boulevard, the Humble area interchange, Community Impact reports.
The segment runs between Springwoods Village Parkway and Townsen Boulevard across Harris and Montgomery counties. The plan would add one lane in each direction, taking the road from two lanes to three each way, replace the grassy median with 10 foot paved shoulders and concrete traffic barriers, and require no new right of way. TxDOT has said the work would be paid for with toll revenue, with possible federal money, and that no new stormwater detention ponds would be needed.
Construction is proposed to begin in late 2027 and run about five years, with environmental studies starting this year and decisions expected in early 2027. TxDOT held a virtual meeting on September 22 and an in person open house on September 24, and is accepting written comment by mail, email or in person dropoff until October 9.
The eastern end of the project is in the Lake Houston area, which is why it matters here. Townsen Boulevard is the Grand Parkway’s Humble and Atascocita interchange, and the segment is the stretch Lake Houston area drivers use to reach Interstate 45 and the Springwoods Village and Woodlands employment centers.
