The San Jacinto Regional Flood-Planning Group inventoried flood readiness across the 11 counties in the Lake Houston basin and found Galveston, Montgomery and San Jacinto counties have no publicly listed hazard mitigation plan, only Brazoria publishes an emergency action plan, and no county publishes a list of flood shelters.

The Lake Houston Dredging and Maintenance District held its inaugural meeting in late August with no design work in hand. Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham said Monday the General Land Office is extending Harris County’s deadlines to spend more than $1.1 billion in Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery and flood mitigation money by one year, while warning that no further extensions will follow.
