Harris County Commissioners Set to Adopt 2026-27 Budget and Tax Rates Thursday, September 17

Harris County Commissioners Court is scheduled to adopt budgets and tax rates for the 2026-27 fiscal year at its meeting Thursday, September 17, Community Impact reports. No vote has been taken yet.

Community Impact reports the court is set to consider a county budget of about $3.09 billion against a shortfall of roughly $180 million, and to adopt budgets for Harris County, the Harris County Flood Control District, Harris Health and the Port of Houston Authority. A discussion of the Harris County Toll Road Authority budget is also on the agenda. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at 1001 Preston St. in downtown Houston.

The proposed 7.6 percent property tax rate increase that commissioners advanced on September 8 is part of the same agenda. Lake Houston Today covered that step in its September 9 report on the proposed rate.

Outlets differ on what the increase would add to the average homeowner’s annual bill. Community Impact reports about $193. Houston Public Media reports about $198. Lake Houston Today has not independently verified either figure and prints the range rather than a single number.

Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita, Huffman, Summerwood and Fall Creek residents all pay Harris County property taxes, and the flood control district budget on the same agenda funds drainage work across the Lake Houston area.
