Good morning. This is the Lake Houston Today levels and weather check for Monday, September 14. No flood, flash flood or river flood alert is in effect anywhere in the Lake Houston area. One National Weather Service alert is active for our counties this morning and it is about heat, not water.
Lake levels at a glance
| Lake | Level | Percent full | Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lake Houston | 42.50 feet | 100.0% | 5:30 a.m. Central, Monday, September 14 |
| Lake Conroe | 199.87 feet | 94.7% | Daily value, September 14 |
Lake Houston
The USGS gauge at Lk Houston nr Sheldon, site 08072000, read 42.50 feet at 5:30 a.m. Central on Monday, September 14. Over the previous 48 hours the lake ranged between 42.41 and 42.55 feet across 190 readings running back to 6:15 a.m. Saturday, September 12.
That is down 0.02 feet from the 42.52 feet the gauge showed at the same hour on Sunday, an ordinary slow drawdown rather than anything worth watching. The Texas Water Development Board put Lake Houston at 42.50 feet and 100.0 percent full in its once daily value for the same date, an exact match with the USGS morning reading.
Lake Conroe
The Texas Water Development Board reported Lake Conroe at 199.87 feet and 94.7 percent full in its daily value for September 14, down 0.02 feet from the 199.89 feet recorded on Sunday. The lake has eased down by about two hundredths of a foot per day for more than a week.
Lake Conroe sits in Montgomery County, well upstream, and it belongs in a Lake Houston paper for a practical reason. San Jacinto River Authority releases from Conroe flow down the West Fork of the San Jacinto and into Lake Houston, so the level behind that dam is part of the flooding picture in Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita before any water reaches them.
