Lake Levels at a Glance
| Lake | Level | Percent full | Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lake Houston | 42.48 feet | 100.0% | 5:30 p.m. Central, Tuesday, September 15 |
| Lake Conroe | 199.87 feet | 94.7% | Daily value posted for September 15 |
Lake Houston
The U.S. Geological Survey gauge at Lk Houston nr Sheldon, site number 08072000, read 42.48 feet at 5:30 p.m. Central on Tuesday, September 15. That is up 0.03 feet from the 42.45 feet the same gauge read at 5:30 p.m. Monday, and level with the 42.48 feet it read at 5:30 a.m. this morning.
Across the past 48 hours the gauge has stayed inside a range of 42.40 to 42.51 feet over 190 readings running back to 6:15 p.m. Sunday, September 13. That is an eleven hundredths of a foot spread, which is the ordinary daily rise and fall of a lake that is not responding to rain.
The Texas Water Development Board lists Lake Houston at 42.47 feet and 100.0 percent full for September 15. The board posts one value per day, so a hundredth of a foot between it and an evening gauge reading is agreement rather than a discrepancy.
Lake Conroe
The Texas Water Development Board lists Lake Conroe at 199.87 feet and 94.7 percent full for September 15. That row is unchanged from the value the board posted for September 14, matching it in every column including surface area and all four storage figures, so this evening’s reading should not be read as a fresh independent measurement or as evidence that the lake has stopped falling. Lake Conroe stood at 199.89 feet on September 13 and had been giving up about two hundredths of a foot a day for more than a week before the posted figure flattened.
Lake Conroe sits in Montgomery County, upstream of this coverage area. San Jacinto River Authority releases from Lake Conroe flow down the West Fork of the San Jacinto River and into Lake Houston, which is why the upstream level is part of the flooding picture in Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita rather than an out of area figure.
