Lake Houston
The U.S. Geological Survey gauge at Lk Houston nr Sheldon, TX, site number 08072000, read 42.45 feet at 5:30 a.m. Central on Thursday, September 17.
Over the past 48 hours the lake has moved within a range of about one inch. The low was 42.39 feet at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday and the high was 42.48 feet at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. That is ordinary daily variation, not a rising or falling trend.
The Texas Water Development Board lists Lake Houston at 100.0 percent of its conservation capacity for September 17, with its own elevation reading of 42.44 feet. The small difference between the two agencies is normal.
Lake Conroe
The Texas Water Development Board daily value for Lake Conroe on September 17 is 199.84 feet and 94.6 percent full. That is down 0.01 feet from 199.85 feet on September 16, a fourth consecutive day of slow decline with no meaningful change in percent full.
Lake Conroe matters in Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita because San Jacinto River Authority releases from Conroe flow down the West Fork of the San Jacinto River into Lake Houston. When the upstream lake is high and the authority releases water, that water arrives here. At 94.6 percent full and easing slightly, Conroe is not in a release posture that would concern downstream residents today.
