Steelwork Begins on the Northpark Drive Bridge Over the Railroad and Loop 494 in Kingwood

Steel has started going up on the Northpark Drive bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and Loop 494 in Kingwood, according to a construction update published Friday, September 18, by ReduceFlooding.com.

The bridge is the central piece of the Northpark Drive expansion, a Lake Houston Redevelopment Authority project with Ralph De Leon as project manager. When it is finished it will form a critical link in the first all-weather evacuation route for Kingwood, a community of roughly 78,000 people. The update reports that streetlights went in on September 16 and that concrete column cap pours are expected in late September.

The Loop 494 intersection will stay closed longer than first planned, the update says, while Union Pacific reviews work plans for drill shaft work next to its tracks.
