Harris County will operate 589 Election Day polling locations for the November midterms, 193 fewer than the 782 locations it ran across 133 ZIP codes in 2022, according to an analysis of Election Day polling sites by ABC News that ABC13 Houston reported Thursday evening.
The change is not uniform across the county. ABC13 reported that the Atascocita ZIP code 77346 drops from 13 Election Day sites to 10, while some other areas gain sites, including 77373 in Spring, which goes from 9 to 13, and 77433 in Cypress, which goes from 13 to 16. Nancy Sims, a political science lecturer quoted in the report, attributed the overall decline to lower Election Day turnout and to more voters casting ballots early, and said site counts are based on how many people voted the last time.
Early voting in Harris County begins Monday, October 19, and runs through Friday, October 30.
