GovTech reported Monday that Houston City Council confirmed Kevin Berry as the city’s chief information officer at its October 7 meeting. Berry had been serving as interim CIO and came to the city in March 2024 as chief technology officer for Houston Public Works, after technology and security leadership roles in the private sector.
He replaces Lisa Kent, who retired June 19 after leading city technology since 2016. Mayor John Whitmire, who announced the appointment, framed Berry’s priorities as advancing the city’s technology vision, operational efficiency, resident experience, transparency and innovation.
Kingwood sits inside Houston city limits, so the department Berry now runs is the one behind the city systems Kingwood residents use for permits, water accounts and 311 service requests.
