Lake Houston
The U.S. Geological Survey gauge at Lk Houston nr Sheldon, TX, site number 08072000, read 42.42 feet at 5:30 p.m. Central on Wednesday, September 16. Over the previous 48 hours the gauge moved in a narrow band between 42.39 feet, recorded at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, and 42.49 feet, recorded at 7:45 p.m. Monday. That is a swing of about one inch across two days, which is ordinary late summer behavior for the lake.
The Texas Water Development Board lists Lake Houston at 100.0 percent of its conservation capacity in its daily reading for September 16, unchanged from earlier in the week.
Lake Conroe
The Texas Water Development Board daily value puts Lake Conroe at 199.85 feet and 94.6 percent full on Wednesday, September 16. That is down one hundredth of a foot from 199.86 feet on Tuesday, a third consecutive day of slow decline. This is a once daily figure rather than an intraday reading, so it carries no timestamp.
Lake Conroe matters here because San Jacinto River Authority releases from Conroe flow down the West Fork of the San Jacinto River into Lake Houston. The upstream level is part of the flooding picture in Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita, which is why this paper tracks it alongside the Lake Houston gauge.
