Bob Rehak of ReduceFlooding.com published an index on September 16 that sorts flood mitigation approaches into 14 broad categories, ranging from reducing runoff at the source and preserving natural storage through detention, conveyance, sediment management and structure protection, to enforcing existing drainage regulations and improving forecasting, warning and preparedness.
The post is written as a companion to his earlier catalog of what causes flooding in the Houston area, which grouped causes into nature, things people do and things people fail to do. Rehak covers drainage and development issues in the San Jacinto watershed above and around Lake Houston, so his work bears directly on Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita and Huffman.
