Houston City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday, September 16, to approve $6.7 million for the nine providers that deliver daily meals and medical transportation to seniors across the Houston area, according to KPRC 2 Click2Houston. The money keeps the services running through September 2027 while the city completes a new procurement.
The provider network named in the report includes BakerRipley, the Salvation Army, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, Northwest Assistance Ministries, the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, Baytown Meals on Wheels and the cities of Jacinto City, La Porte and South Houston.
Kingwood sits inside Houston city limits, so city-funded senior nutrition and medical transportation programs are local services here. Lake Houston Today previewed the vote on Sunday in Houston City Council to Vote Wednesday on $6.7 Million Contract for Senior Meals and Medical Rides.
