Northpark Drive Phase 1 Is 75 Percent Complete and Due to Wrap by April, TIRZ 10 Chair Says

Phase 1 of the Northpark Drive project in Kingwood is 75 percent complete and should be substantially finished by April, Lake Houston Redevelopment Authority and TIRZ 10 board chair Tom Broad told residents at a District E town hall on Monday, September 22.

Community Impact reports the $76.8 million first phase is building a six-lane divided roadway between Highway 59 and Russell Palmer Road, along with an overpass carrying Northpark Drive above the railroad tracks and Loop 494. That overpass is intended to serve as an evacuation route, removing a rail crossing that can block traffic out of Kingwood.

Phase 2 is a separate $72.7 million project and is about 30 percent through design, Broad said. Right-of-way acquisition for that phase is set to begin in fall 2026.

Steelwork on the bridge portion of Phase 1 began earlier this month. The same town hall also produced an update on the Lake Houston dam gates project.
