Harris County Commissioners Court discussed its proposed fiscal 2027 budget and property tax rate on Tuesday but did not take a vote, and will set the rate and adopt the budget on September 17, FOX 26 Houston reported. The county is working through a $181 million shortfall in a proposed $3.1 billion budget, and the two options presented would move the median homestead tax bill from $891 to either $977 or $905.
Harris County includes Kingwood, Atascocita, Humble, Huffman, Summerwood and Fall Creek, so whatever rate the court adopts applies to homeowners across the Lake Houston area. Fiscal year 2027 begins October 1.
