ReduceFlooding reported Monday that the Lake Houston Dredging and Maintenance District board’s only formal vote at its most recent meeting was to establish a banking relationship with Third Coast Bank, a step the district needs before it can pay a lawyer, a bookkeeper and other vendors. The board also posted a request for qualifications for an attorney experienced with districts of this kind, with responses due October 21 and a recommendation expected at the November meeting.
The same report says the district reviewed a constrained budget built around the money it actually has and an unconstrained budget showing what it could do if fully funded, that the only funding pledges so far have come from Houston council members Fred Flickinger and Twila Carter, and that the district is still months away from moving any sand. Its next regular meeting is set for November 16 at 110 West Main Street in Humble, and meetings are open to the public.
This is the agency charged with keeping sediment out of Lake Houston, so its staffing and funding timeline is the practical schedule for dredging in Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita.
