Good morning from the Lake Houston area. Both lakes are sitting in their normal ranges this Friday, September 18, and the National Weather Service has no flood watches, warnings or advisories in effect for Harris, Montgomery or Liberty counties.
Lake Levels at a Glance
| Lake | Level | Percent Full | Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lake Houston | 42.41 feet | 100.0 percent | 5:30 a.m. Central, Friday, September 18 |
| Lake Conroe | 199.82 feet | 94.5 percent | Daily value for Friday, September 18 |
Lake Houston
The U.S. Geological Survey gauge at Lk Houston nr Sheldon, TX, site number 08072000, read 42.41 feet at 5:30 a.m. Central on Friday, September 18. Over the previous 48 hours the gauge ran between 42.38 feet, recorded at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, and 42.48 feet, recorded at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday. That is a swing of about an inch and a quarter across two days, which is ordinary movement for a lake held near its conservation pool.
The Texas Water Development Board lists Lake Houston at 100.0 percent of conservation capacity for Friday, with its own reading of 42.43 feet. The small gap between the two agencies is normal.
Lake Conroe
The Texas Water Development Board daily value puts Lake Conroe at 199.82 feet and 94.5 percent full on Friday, September 18, down 0.01 feet from 199.83 feet on Thursday. That is the sixth consecutive day of slow decline. This is a once daily figure rather than an intraday reading, so it carries a date rather than a timestamp.
Lake Conroe matters in a Lake Houston paper because San Jacinto River Authority releases from Lake Conroe flow down the West Fork of the San Jacinto River into Lake Houston. The upstream level is part of the flooding picture in Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita, which is why this page carries both lakes every day.
The Forecast
Today. Sunny. A high near 94, with temperatures falling to around 91 in the afternoon. Northeast wind 0 to 5 mph. No measurable chance of rain. The National Weather Service did not publish a heat index value for this period.
Tonight. Clear, with a low around 71. Southeast wind 0 to 5 mph. No measurable chance of rain.
Saturday. Sunny. A high near 94, again falling to around 91 in the afternoon. East wind 0 to 5 mph. No measurable chance of rain.
The forecast for the Kingwood gridpoint was last updated at 1:21 a.m. Central on Friday.
Active Alerts
There are no active National Weather Service alerts for Harris County, Montgomery County or Liberty County this morning. Two alerts were active elsewhere in Texas: a flood advisory from the Corpus Christi office covering Nueces and San Patricio counties, and an air quality alert from the Fort Worth office covering counties in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Neither affects the Lake Houston area.
Separately, and unrelated to any flood condition, the 90-day Harris County burn ban adopted this week remains in effect for unincorporated parts of the county, including Atascocita, Huffman, Summerwood and Fall Creek. That is a fire risk measure tied to dry conditions, not a water measure.
