Harris County Flood Control District Starts the Next Phase of the T.C. Jester Detention Basin

The Harris County Flood Control District is moving to the next phase of construction on the T.C. Jester Stormwater Detention Basin, in the Spring-Klein area of the Cypress Creek watershed, Community Impact reported on October 9. The outlet put the estimated construction cost of the phase at $9.5 million and said the basin is designed to hold roughly 1,200 acre-feet of stormwater once all of its compartments are finished, with work on the final compartment expected to begin in 2027.

The project is outside the Lake Houston area, but the flood control district is a countywide agency funded by Harris County property owners, Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita included, and part of the money for the basin comes from the 2018 county flood bond that those same taxpayers approved. Where that bond money goes, and how fast it gets spent, is a Harris County story in every precinct.
