Houston is “not taking any action” on its application for a $150 million Justice Department grant, Houston Public Media reported Thursday. The Model Cities Initiative grant guidelines tie the money to Justice Department priorities that include immigration enforcement.
The application was pulled from the City Council agenda twice in September and never came to a vote, and the Justice Department’s September 1 deadline for proposals has already passed. Whether the department would accept a late submission has not been confirmed.
Lake Houston Today has followed this item since it first appeared on the agenda, including when the council pulled the application in September. It is a local story because Kingwood sits inside Houston city limits, so Houston police funding decisions are decisions about the department that serves part of this coverage area.
